Shakeology Review

The first time I learned about Shakeology was through an ad I saw while purchasing the P90X Peak Results Package .  I had never heard of this and I was skeptical about it’s promises.  My skepticism never went away because it was a challenge finding a credible review for Shakeology.

A month into P90X, after talking to a few people using Shakeology, I finally decided to give Shakeology a try.  I was still skeptical but I figured if I didn’t like it, I could return it (they have a money-back guarantee).

Price

I’ll be honest, the first issue I had with Shakeology was its price.  At $119.99, I would be lying if I said this was cheap.  To justify the cost, I had to look at in in two ways.  One, if I didn’t like it, I could send it back for a refund (even if the bag was empy).  Two, this is a meal replacement, and with 30 servings per bag, I was looking at $4 per meal (coaches receive 30% off, so it would $3 per meal).   Compared to the $7- $10 I spent on lunch every day, Shakeology was actually saving me money.  With all the benefits this shake promises, I figured it was worth the investment.

Taste

I decided to go with the Chocolate flavor, and the first thing I noticed was the taste.  To be honest it was surprisingly good.  I wouldn’t expect a shake with this many ingredients and benefits to taste good, but it did.  I will add that this is NOT the best tasting shake I’ve had.  I was used to chocolate flavored whey protein from GNC and that, in my opinion, is the best tasting protein supplement out there.  The taste isn’t a deal breaker but it’s not the best in the world.

Benefits

The main reason why I bought Shakeology was the benefits.  Here are the benefits:

  • This patent-pending daily nutritional shake helps your body gently eliminate toxins more efficiently while allowing for better absorption of the essential nutrients you need. A proprietary blend of digestive enzymes and prebiotics helps your body progressively eliminate the toxins that build up over time from eating today’s highly processed foods.
  • At the same time, whole-food ingredients deliver the essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to curb cravings, allowing your body to shed stored fat while the more than 20 different antioxidants and phytonutrients help reduce free radical damage that can lead to heart disease, heart attacks, high blood pressure, and stroke.

The first thing I noticed in my first week of using this supplement was an improved digestive system.  Almost immediately I had more regular bowel movements.  Having been on a lot of medications, one of the side effects is a decrease in digestive health.  I feel like this in combination with regular exercise has returned my digestive system to normal.

The second benefit I felt was an increase in energy.  My first month of P90X was tiring and I relied heavily on coffee for energy throughout the day.  I haven’t had one sip of coffee since the addition of Shakeology.

Another benefit that I felt was a decrease in appetite.  Going into my second month of P90X, I was on a fat shredding diet.  My calories were limited to 1700-1900 a day and as a result I was always hungry.  After making Shakeology a regular part of my diet, I noticed I was able to last longer without feeling hungry.  This was a huge boost for me, because the fat shredding diet is one of the hardest diets to maintain.

Final Thoughts

I can truthfully say that I am a big fan of Shakeology.  It definitely delivers on it’s promises.  It taste great and it’s the healthiest meal of my day.  If I were limited to one supplement, it would be Shakeology.  Not only does it provide me with a good amount of protein, but it’s definitely improved my quality of life.  I recommend this to everyone as part of their diet.  Feel free to leave any comments or email me (FitAmbitions@gmail.com) if you have any questions.
